Edward O. Thorp

American mathematician, hedge-fund manager and author, and a pioneer of quantitative investing. He devised the first scientific blackjack card-counting system and, with Sheen Kassouf, an early options-pricing and delta-hedging model that anticipated Black-Scholes. He ran the market-beating fund Princeton/Newport Partners and wrote the memoir "A Man for All Markets."
